Let's look at some of the popular neighborhoods in the urban core.

The Halifax Peninsula: This area is represented on the map as a peninsula that looks like a boot. This is the hottest area for real estate and homes here perennially go for the best prices in the local market. There are four distinct areas: the North End, the South End, The West End, and the Downtown.

THE NORTH END: Halifax's North End was long considered a blue-collar neighborhood. Stretching from North Street to the heel of the peninsula's boot on Africville Road, this area is rapidly gentrifying. Along with the downtown, the North End of Halifax has seen a boom in growth over the last five years. With high rises and mixed-use buildings joining single-family homes and small apartment buildings, there is a wide variety of housing options in this area. Add to this some of the best dining and drinking options in the city and you have a burgeoning district.

The West End: This area of Halifax is largely residential, single-family homes. It is always a popular option for families who like to stay on the Halifax Peninsula. Most homes you find in this part of Halifax will be older homes that may be renovated, or ready for a renovation. There are lots of great schools and activities in this area.

THE SOUTH END: containing both St. Mary's University and Dalhousie University, the south end of Halifax runs from South Street to Point Pleasant Park at the toe of the Halifax Peninsula. This has traditionally been the most expensive real estate in the city, and the further south you go, the pricier it gets. With schools and parks, along with many beautiful older homes, this is a well-established neighborhood.

DOWNTOWN HALIFAX: For most Haligonians, Downtown Halifax starts at Citadel Hill and until you get to the water. This is a vibrant area with a lively bar and restaurant scene, as well as many new options for condominiums lining the heart of downtown. There are also some options in historic row houses in more southern areas of the Downtown neighborhood, but people buying real estate in this area are typically looking at apartment or condominium living with the convenience of having everything, including the beautiful Halifax waterfront, in easy walking distance.
